Live Facial Recognition Operation

Live Facial Recognition Operation

I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Violent crime, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey.

On Wednesday 7 October, officers from the Tower Hamlets Neighbourhood Policing Team and the Facial Recognition Team conducted an operation on Whitechapel Road targeting wanted offenders.

During the operation, seven individuals were arrested for offences including grievous bodily harm (GBH), recall to prison, stalking, burglary, domestic-related assault and failing to appear at court. One individual had been wanted for approximately eight months. The use of facial recognition technology enabled officers to identify, locate and arrest the individual.

Across London we’re using intelligence to ruthlessly target high-harm offenders while making better use of our ‘stop and search’ powers so we can get more weapons off the street.

If you have experienced violent crime in your area, please report it using our online reporting tools at https://www.met.police.uk  or call the non-emergency number 101.

Alternatively, you can stay 100% anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
